Early Intervention
Children who fall behind their peers in early grades can develop negative feelings about school. This intervention focuses on developing phonological and phonemic awareness, along with other fundamental skills. Sessions are multisensory, combine games with research, and use lots of manipulatives including ones that strengthen fine motor skills. If you are noticing signs or dyslexia runs in your family, contact me for a consultation.
Beginning Reading
I can move your child from a pre-reader to a reader in a fun and meaningful way. Your child will create and star in stories with the specific sound patterns and sight words they need to master. Each story builds on the previous stories by reviewing and adding more sight words and spelling patterns at the pace that is just right for your child to master. This approach combines a Multisensory Structured Language Program with stories children are excited to create and read.
Upper Level Reading
Students build fluency and mastery as they move through the Wilson Reading System. I supplement with additional tactile and kinesthetic activities and involve students in building skills through writing stories using the sound patterns, vocabulary, and sight words we are learning. Executive function and advocacy skills coaching is built into each session, so students can become independent learners and can express their needs to teachers.
Math Intervention
I work with students in PreK-8th Grade to develop math skills using a multisensory approach and lots of manipulatives moving lessons from the concrete to the abstract to create a deeper understanding. Students create colorful math reference journals with step-by-step instructions to create an internal dialogue. As concepts are mastered, students create tutorials to solidify their knowledge.
